Our next grant cycle opens Spring 2025

Thank you to everyone who applied in 2024! We received over 60 applications, 3x the number in 2023.

  • We are excited to open our 2025 grant cycle in Spring 2025; please check back here for a link to our 2025 Grant Application form.
  • If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to us by email.

Funding Priorities & Process

One of the key activities of the Jewish LGBTQ Donor Network is providing funding to Jewish LGBTQ projects and organizations.

Current Funding Priorities

Innovation, systems-change, and advocacy work with a long-term impact horizon—especially projects that are focused on any/all of the following:

  • Increasing the leadership of LGBTQ Jews
  • Meeting the demonstrated, unmet needs of LGBTQ Jews
  • Increasing a sense of belonging for LGBTQ Jews in the Jewish community

Not Currently Funding:

  • One-time events that meet short-term needs but cannot demonstrate a connection to systemic-change with measurable long-term outcomes
  • Short-term, site-specific direct services

If you have projects that do not fit within our current priorities, but that you still wish to bring to our attention, please reach out to us through our general interest form.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Funding request is between $5K and $50K for one year.
  • Project has tax-exempt status or is affiliated with a fiscal sponsor.
  • Funding is requested for a specific project; general, unrestricted operating requests are not being considered at this time.
  • We currently prioritize projects in North America and Israel, but will consider requests for projects from other countries on a case-by-case basis.
  • If the project is new, it must commence within one year of funding.

Criteria Used to Evaluate Applications

Enhancing the Lives of LGBTQ Jews

  • We seek projects that meaningfully enhance LGBTQ Jews’ ability to thrive.
  • We are particularly interested in new approaches to the Jewish LGBTQ community.

Need for Funding from the Network

  • Without funding from the Network, the project wouldn’t happen or wouldn’t be able to scale.
  • The project/organization does not have access to significant support from established funders (Federations, foundations, etc.).
  • The project has a reasonable plan for sustainability going forward.

New or Early-Stage Project

  • We prioritize new and early-stage initiatives over established ones (new = under 7 years old).

Leadership

  • We prioritize projects and organizations run by LGBTQ Jewish leaders.
  • For projects not run by LGBTQ Jews, project leadership must be able to demonstrate a strong capacity to work with the LGBTQ Jewish community.
  • The project will be implemented by proven leaders or individuals with leadership potential.

Partnership Value-Add Beyond Funds

  • Project could benefit from additional collaboration with the Network and its members beyond just financial support (for example: mentorship, program advice, or specific skills-based help).

Application Process

The funding process starts with a short application form. Those applicants who are invited to move forward will then be invited to share a formal proposal. We hope to make the early application stage a relatively light lift for you so that we can determine if it makes sense to ask you to complete a full proposal. If you have any questions or need support with your application, please email us.

Our 2025 application form will go live in Spring 2025 and grantees will be announced by Summer 2025.

2024 Application Calendar For Reference

  • Short Application Form: Due July 15, 2024.
  • Full Proposal (by invite only): Due August 30, 2024.
  • Grant Announcement: Announced October 2024; funding released February 2025.

Short-Form Application: Helpful Reminders

Before starting on your short-form application, please thoroughly review our funding criteria outlined above (as well as linked here in a shareable pdf) to ensure your program/organization is a good fit.

Here are some guidelines we ask you to follow for your short-form application:

  • Please keep your application answers clear and concise—imagine that your entire application could fit on one page and limit the length of your answers accordingly.
  • If there is useful background information or additional materials you wish to share, feel free to include links to that information in your application.

In your application, you will be asked to:

  • Identify the project/program you think is a fit with the Network’s criteria and how much funding you’re requesting.
  • Explain how the program enhances the lives of LGBTQ Jews.
  • Explain how funding from the Network is filling a “must have” rather than “nice to have” need for resources.
  • Address any partnership opportunities with the Network that might be valuable in addition
    to funding.
  • When in doubt, refer to the criteria and explain how the project/program fits within them.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Our 2025 grant applications open up in Spring 2025.

If you have questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to email us.
